Hydroponic Grow Towers That Work in Every Canadian Climate
Explore how our vertical systems deliver consistent harvests even in short seasons or northern environments.
Grow More Food, in More Places, With Fewer Limitations
If you’re trying to grow food in Canada, you’re no stranger to challenges.
From short growing seasons to rising food costs, our climate and geography make it difficult to consistently access fresh, healthy produce especially if you live in a northern, rural, or urban food desert.
That’s where hydroponic grow towers come in.
At Willow Brook Farms, we’ve developed Canadian-tested, culturally adaptable vertical farming systems that empower communities, families, and educators to grow nutritious food year-round, indoors, and with minimal space.
What Is an Aeroponic Tower?
A hydroponic grow tower is a vertical farming system that uses recirculating water and nutrients instead of soil to grow plants. Each tower stacks multiple growing slots vertically, allowing for up to 64 plants in less than 2 square feet of floor space.
Plants are supported by growing ports, and water is pumped from a base reservoir to deliver nutrients directly to the root zone. With LED lighting and minimal maintenance, towers produce fast-growing, clean, and chemical-free food.
Why Hydroponic Towers Are Taking Root in Canada
Grow Indoors—No Matter the Weather
Most Canadian growing zones get 4–6 frost-free months per year. But many communities—particularly in northern provinces or the territories have even less. Even in urban settings, sunlight and space are limited.
Our hydroponic towers solve for that.
Built for indoor use in homes, classrooms, greenhouses, or community spaces
Climate-controlled systems that eliminate seasonal limitations
Harvest weekly in any month of the year
No backyard? No problem. These towers work in condos, band offices, classrooms, or anywhere with a power source and a few feet of open space.
What You Can Grow
Hydroponic towers work best for leafy greens, herbs, and certain fruits. While they’re not ideal for root vegetables, they shine in producing nutrient-rich, fast-growing crops such as:
Lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, arugula
Kale, bok choy, mustard greens
Basil, cilantro, parsley, mint
Strawberries, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers (with guidance)
Traditional or medicinal plants with shallow roots (on request)
These towers are not only productive, but also flexible. Whether you’re feeding a household or running a school food program, you can adapt the crops to meet your needs.
Easy to Use, Easy to Maintain
We’ve designed our systems with real-world users in mind—including busy families, students, and Elders.
Each tower is:
Self-watering, with a timed recirculating pump
Easy to clean, with built-in access panels
Low-maintenance, requiring minimal inputs and daily work
Modular, so you can expand from 1 to 10 towers over time
We also offer training, onboarding, and technical support—so you’re never on your own after the system arrives.
Built for Canadian Realities
Cold Climate? No Problem.
Our towers operate in indoor environments from Vancouver Island to Nunavut, offering dependable food access in communities where grocery shelves can be empty—or unaffordable—during winter months.
We support you in setting up:
LED grow lights
Environmental controls (optional)
Nutrient guidance adapted to region and season
These features make the towers resilient and reliable, even where outdoor gardens fail.
Affordable, Long-Term Value
Hydroponic systems may feel like a big investment but the return on fresh food, educational engagement, and health improvement is well worth it.
Cost Benefits:
Grows 10x more per square foot than traditional soil gardening
Saves 60–80% on produce costs annually (for active systems)
Cuts reliance on long-distance grocery shipping
Can be funded through grants, education programs, or nonprofit partnerships
Willow Brook Farms provides support in identifying funding pathways, including:
Provincial food and education grants
Designed for Schools, Homes, and Community Spaces
Whether you’re a teacher looking to inspire students, a caregiver growing for your household, or a program coordinator designing a food initiative these towers offer flexibility and impact.
Use Cases Include:
Classroom-based STEM and food education
Community kitchens or food banks
Urban households with no yard or sun
Elder centres growing herbs for wellness programs
We also provide culturally relevant curriculum support for Indigenous and rural schools, helping connect students to food literacy, stewardship, and sovereignty.
How We Address Common Concerns
“Can I grow traditional crops like carrots or beets?”
While root vegetables aren’t suitable for vertical hydroponics, we help identify culturally significant greens and herbs that work beautifully in towers. We also offer custom medicinal planting plans in consultation with local Elders.
“Won’t this drive up my electricity bill?”
Our towers use low-wattage, high-efficiency LEDs—costing less than $2–3 per month per tower in most households.
“Is maintenance difficult?”
Cleaning is simple, and we supply cleaning protocols, checklists, and virtual support. We also offer replacement parts and nutrient packages, shipped Canada-wide.
